Public Schools serve approximately one hundred and sixty-four
students through the various special education programs
provided to our students. Idea B moneys are used to cover
a portion of these expenses. Students are served in their
least restrictive environments. Our school uses resource
rooms, self-contained classrooms and regular classroom placement
with Individual Education Plans.
Programs
are provided for the moderately to profoundly handicapped.
Speech Pathology services are provided for students in need
of them. Students eligible for special services fall into
the categories of speech-language impaired, visually impaired,
hearing impaired, specific learning disabilities, orthopedic
impaired, other health impaired, autism, mentally handicapped
and seriously emotionally disturbed. The school receives
money under Idea B to pay special education teachers' salaries,
fund Special Education pre-school services, and professional
development activities. The parent advisory committee meets
in May.
