Title 1 Programs
2003-2004

Title I is a federally funded program set up for students that live in households of poverty level incomes. Participation in the program does not depend upon financial status of a household, but funding by the federal government is based upon the free and reduced lunch status of the students at Roland.

Roland Public Schools uses the Title I funds to provide students with School Wide Services in mathematics and reading. All students, in grades one through eight, benefit from having three reading teachers and two mathematics teachers. These teachers work with state funded staff and all students to provide the best academic atmosphere possible. This allows us to provide formal reading classes through the eighth grade for all students needing it. The reading teachers in this program are reading specialists. Priority Academic Student Skills are an integral part of our instructional curriculum. High expectations are required of all students at the elementary and junior high levels. Both the Title I teachers and the teachers hired through local and federal funds are responsible for the progress of all students. The students receive the expertise of many qualified people. Their experiences and instructional delivery is diverse and varied. .

Roland High School has a target-assisted language arts teacher. This position provides remediation for students who have had difficulty on parts of the criterion referenced tests and achievement tests.

District wide, we pay the salaries of six teachers and one teacher's assistant. In addition, we use these funds for professional development activities and materials that are needed for classroom instruction through these programs.
