7 Programs
2003-2004
Title
VII is an Indian Education program. Money is generated through
the 506 Indian count. This school year, 2003-04 is the second
in a five year program funded through a federal grant. This
grant employees two teacher assistants at the elementary
level and an art teacher at the junior high level.
The
elementary school is focusing on improving reading and math
skills. The teacher assistant will provide the students
with additional instruction and learning time as directed
by the teacher. Individual attention and one-on-one reading
experiences will be an important part of this program. Supplies
are included with implementing this program.
The
State of Oklahoma has put a priority on Art Instruction
as part of the regular curriculum. In the Priority Academic
Student Skills the state emphasizes," The arts are part
of the basic curriculum framework. The Arts Standard at
each level will involve students in making art, looking
at art and analyzing works of art." This program funds our
art instructor at the junior high level. Textbooks and supplies
are included in this program.
In addition,
this grant provides for after school tutoring for Indian
students. The elementary students are tutored by high school
students. It is a Learn and Serve activity. Teachers are
paid to oversee the tutoring program and provide professional
expertise when needed.
Since
the 506 Forms on file generate our funds, it is important
that these forms be completed and returned. It is not necessary
that you have a CDIB Card. A parent committee is elected
in February for a two year term. The committee meets three
times a year, usually in February, November and May.
