Sequoyah County Health Department and Sallisaw Hospital are in the process of administering COVID 19 vaccines. Currently, if you are a frontline worker, healthcare worker, first responder, teacher or over the age of 65 you can call to reserve a vaccine. You will be placed on a list and receive a phone call when your vaccine is available in the near future.

Due to a COVID situation: the Checotah Lady Wildcats are unable to play our Lady Rangers Tuesday Dec 8th. That game has been rescheduled for Dec 22nd. The Runnin’ Rangers will travel to Checotah. Game time is set for 6:30 PM tomorrow.

Roland Public Schools would like to thank the town of Roland for donating money to purchase 12 Oasis touchless water bottle fillers. The high school received three, the middle school received two and the elementary buildings received two each. RPS was also able to install a bottle filler in the high school gym, the middle school gym as well as the Ag building. These bottle fillers will help students and faculty stay healthy and hydrated and will reduce the amount of plastic bottles being thrown away. Thank you again to the town of Roland!

Congratulations to our High School Cheerleaders!! They received an Academic Achievement Certificate. They were rewarded for having a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and ranked in the upper one-third of their classification. The cheerleaders also completed in the Game Day State Competition on November 14 where they placed 5th place out of 25 teams in the 3A classification. Congratulations to these outstanding student athletes.

Parents of MS and HS students: It is in our handbook that can be found online that students may NOT wear leggings unless their top is below mid-thigh in length. Students who do not comply with the dress code will be sent home to change or to in school suspension (ISS) if they are unable to change into clothes that meet the dress code requirements. Parents of elementary students: The first scheduled virtual day is Wednesday, Sept. 9. Initially students in the elementary grades PK-3-5 will be given a homework assignment to be completed on this day away from school. Eventually students that have devices and connectivity will do assignments made on Google classroom. This process will be different depending on the age of your children. Roland Public Schools 2020-21 Return to School Plan The 2020-21 school year will begin as scheduled on August 13, 2020 with extensive safety measures in place. The school district will monitor data related to COVID-19 throughout the school year. Decisions regarding the school calendar or attendance will be based on the most current statistics and with the advice of state and local health agencies. New developments or directives could cause other formats for classes to be considered, please be aware that plans are subject to change if events or new directives warrant. Traditional Classes -Resume classes as scheduled August 13, 2020. -Regular school calendar will be followed -Enhanced cleaning and sanitizing procedures in place for staff -Students and staff will have increased access to sanitizer and handwashing opportunities. -Masks are required on buses, the school district will have disposable masks available, but it is highly suggested that students provide their own mask. -Masks are optional but recommended for students and staff during the school day. State guidance on this may be coming soon. -Health Screening Procedures will be in place for students, staff and visitors. -Students and staff are required to stay home if they have COVID-19 symptoms. -New Cafeteria procedures to allow for social distancing. Virtual Classes -Virtual Classes will be available, students will complete coursework through an online platform. -The decision to attend virtual classes should be made after careful consideration due to the level of commitment required from parents or guardians. -Virtual classes attendance will be a semester long commitment, a student will not be able to change from one platform to the other until the end of the semester.

The Roland Band will have a fireworks stand beginning Friday evening, June 26th through Saturday, July 4th. It will be located in the gravel lot just west of the Oasis Car Wash on Hwy 64 in Roland.
Roland FFA will be selling corn the week of June 29th at the Quik Stop (Roland Road and Hwy 64). The cost is $20 a bushel if it is pre-ordered (email email@example.com) or $22 per bushel on site.
Graduation Details: Graduation is to be held on June 20th at 10:00 AM at the Carl Matlock Fieldhouse. We ask that you not access the field before 9:00 AM, June 20th. The football field and stands will be locked until that time. We will not be limiting the number of family members who may attend, but we are requesting that social distancing guidelines be used at every opportunity. You must come into the field by the main entrance on the east side, and you must leave the field through the west entrance near the gym. A limited supply of masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the entrance and exit of the field. We suggest that families sit in groups and distance from other groups in the stands. Please do not come onto the field for any reason, and please do not gather on the field after graduation. Rain is not expected; however, if it were to rain, graduation would be held in the gym with details to follow at graduation practice on Friday evening. Your graduate must attend graduation practice Friday evening (5:30 for pizza in the commons with practice to follow) in order to walk in the ceremony on Saturday morning. ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS: This year we are trying something new. Login into gradebook using either your Wengage username and password or the student's google email. Select the Course request tab Click the Add next to the desired electives When complete click the back button to view course requests. Freshmen need to choose either computer app I or Spanish I plus 2 electives. Seniors choose classes you have not taken in the past. All schedules will be individually reviewed by the counselor. To make changes to schedules Seniors may come in August 3, Juniors-August 4, Sophomores-August 5, Freshman-August 6, Open-August 7. 8:30-2 all days. Online enrollment is available until June 26th.
Graduation practice is Friday, June 19th at 6:30 pm. We will be serving pizza for our graduates in the commons area at 5:30 pm. You MUST attend graduation practice in order to walk during graduation. Please dress appropriately for practice as it may be very hot that evening. Please return any textbooks, library books, or athletic equipment that you may have to the high school office before graduation (June 20th). Friday Night Senior Parade and Pep Rally--Seniors are to meet at Roland Road Hardware and The Assembly of God no later than 6:45 pm to be escorted to the high school. Please do NOT wear your caps and gowns--save those for graduation on June 20th. Seniors are to park at the high school using the band room parking lot, the admin parking area, or if need be, the area by the gym. EVERYONE is to remain in their vehicles except for the seniors who will walk to the specified chairs and be seated--abiding by social distancing protocols at all times. After being addressed by Mrs. Harrell and Mr. Rainwater, the seniors will be expected to exit the facilities utilizing CDC social distancing guidelines.
Sports physicals (athletes in grades 6 through 12) will be held on Thursday, June 4th in the Roland Junior High Gym. Boys' exams will start at 1:00 PM and the girls will follow at 2:00 PM. A $10 fee is due and payable at the time of the exam. The paperwork must be picked up and filled out prior to the exam and requires a parent's signature. Paperwork will be available in the high school office May 27 through June 3rd from 8:00 AM until Noon. You may also pick up the paperwork from the coaches.

GRADUATION is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 AM. Please understand, this date is subject to CDC guidelines and may have to be rescheduled. Mr. Brant has taught physical science, 8th grade science and science lab at Roland for the past 15 years and is highly respected by his peers and beloved by his students, past and present. Roland Schools would like to announce the Masonic Students of Today. These students are selected by their teachers on the basis of scholarship, leadership, and academic qualities. ATTENTION SENIORS: Adam with Balfour/Graduate Sales will distribute caps, gowns, announcements, etc. on Thursday, May 14th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in front of the high school. Please follow packet pickup procedures (drive by high school north to south with your passenger side toward the building). And, follow CDC guidelines--do not get out of your vehicles. SENIORS! Make sure you are checking your school email! Mrs. Offineer is sending out instructions for your final transcript to be sent to the first college of your choice.
We still have several several yearbooks that need to be picked up today. We will be available from 8 AM to Noon and then 1 PM to 3 PM. There are approximately 25 extra yearbooks available to purchase for $45 apiece.

Yearbooks to be Distributed--Tuesday, May 5th and Wednesday, May 6th yearbooks will be distributed from the front of the high school from 8 AM to Noon and 1 PM to 3PM. This will be for people who have already purchased yearbooks. Some additional yearbooks are available for purchase on a first come/first serve basis. CDC regulations will be followed--STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE AND LINE UP AS IF YOU WERE PICKING UP YOUR STUDENT FROM SCHOOL.
If your JH student took spring pictures, you may pick up the proofs next week (beginning May 4) on Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9-12 noon at the JH office. If you cannot make those times, please call the JH office to make different arrangements.

At the direction of the Oklahoma State Board of Education, all public schools are closed until at least April 6, 2020. This closure will mean immediate stoppage of all extracurricular and athletic activities. Public use of school facilities will not be allowed during this time.
The OSSAA has postponed the state basketball tournament until further notice. Roland Public School will not be in school Friday, March 13th. Spring break will be March 16th - March 20th. Please monitor the website or facebook for any further updates.
Roland's Show Team participated in the 55th Annual Sequoyah County Junior Livestock Show on February 27, 2020. Winners include: Kash Earnhart, Kynlei Earnhart, Chloe Offineer, Brandie Reese, Morgan Reese, Landon Smith, Logan Smith, Alex Brant, Blair Colwell, Blane Colwell, Conner Reichert and Shawn Wilson. Congratulations to our Vex Robotics and Boys Basketball teams for qualifying in their respective State Tournaments. In an effort to support both these programs and allow students, staff and community to attend, Roland School will be out on Friday, March 13th. Go Rangers !
Cole Stephens is the Oklahoma 8th grade weight lifting champion for the 157 lb division. Along with Cole, other RJH students placed in the state competition. Mason Schalski placed 5th in the 9th grade heavyweight division. Joseph Stone placed 2nd in the 7th grade 220 lb division. Michael Taylor placed 4th in the 7th grade 157 lb division. Congratulations to these boys and their coaches. Job well done!

Parent/Teacher conferences will be held at Roland Public Schools on Thursday evening, January 30, 2020 from 3:30 - 7:00 P.M. and again on Friday, January 31, 2020 from 8:00 . - 11:00 A.M. No evening meal will be provided on Thursday and there is no school on Friday.
Roland Rangers JH and HS VEX Robotics teams won big at the Nowata Ironman VEX Robotics Tournament this past Saturday, January 25. The High School 9545X Judges Award went to Camryn Hull, Matthew Whittenburg and Ashley Davis. The Middle School Tournament Champions went to team 9545M which is Michala Richards and MacKenzie O'Neal. The 9545A Tournament Champions, Skills Champion and winner of the Judges Awards are Suzy Greer and Lane Tate. Both of the Roland JH teams are now qualified for state. Congratulations and great job to all Roland Rangers Robotics teams!
The Junior High weight lifting team competed at the Hilldale Invitational Weight Meet on Thursday, January 23rd. We would like to congratulate all the boys on an excellent weight meet and would also like to recognize some outstanding lifters. Cole Stephens placed 1st in the 157, 8th grade weight class. Ashton Peters placed 1st in the 220, 8th grade weight class. Joseph Stone placed 1st in the 220, 7th grade weight class and Bryson Root placed 2nd in the 132, 7th grade weight class. Congratulations to these young men!
The gym doors will open at 4:15 P.M. tonight. Due to the roof construction on the Lower Elementary, a portion of the parking lot is blocked off. Please use caution if parking in those areas. Additional parking is available in front of the high school.

Freshmen students from the Jr High had the opportunity to experience Challenge Day on Wednesday, Dec. 18. The overall goals of Challenge Day are to increase personal power and self-esteem, to shift negative peer pressure to positive peer support and to teach students that teasing, violence and all forms of oppression are unacceptable. Students participated in several activities and were given several opportunities to speak out about what's really going on for them and what they need from one another. All students who participated learned a lot and had a great bonding time with their peers and several adults throughout the community. RJH wishes to thank the Cherokee Nation, AIRC and all of the volunteers who helped make this a success for our students.

Today, members of Roland’s National Honor Society, Student Council, and Alternative Education program had the privilege of serving at the annual “Christmas Honors” workshop in Fort Smith. Students & volunteers from all over the River Valley came together to prepare 16,500 wreaths to be placed on headstones at the Fort Smith National Cemetery in honor of the courageous men and women who have sacrificed for our country and our freedom.
We would like to congratulate the 8th grade boys basketball team on winning the Sallisaw basketball tournament. They earned the victory by defeating Van Buren, Sallisaw and Poteau. Great job, boys!
