In October, students from Mrs. Benefield’s AP English class entered the VFW Voice of Democracy contest where they wrote and recorded an essay to the theme of “What Makes America Great”. Seniors Lana Edwards and Makayla Whittenburg were chosen as local winners to advance to the district level. Makayla ended up taking 1st place in the district and will now advance to the state level to compete for a $1000 scholarship and a trip to Washington DC.
