Recently Mrs. Wise's seventh and eighth grade Science Lab classes really enjoyed her "Saving Fred" challenge. This project based learning activity allowed the students to use applied problem solving. Fred had to be saved using only four paper clips. Students created a flowchart to show the sequence of operations to save Fred. They used detailed pictures, labeled major parts within their diagram and included a written description of each diagram.

Roland Middle School has implemented an academic advisory hour this year to help improve student learning gaps in Math and Reading. This is a pilot study at Roland Schools that places students on a learning path determined by a diagnostic test taken by each student at the beginning of the school year. Students work daily on their individualized learning path and progress through the program earning badges and trophies as they complete academic standards. The following students were the top achievers in each grade for the week of September 4th - September 8th.

Grandparent's Day was a hit!! We loved seeing our grands in the building this morning. Our students have been talking about it all morning. Thank you to all of the grandparents who took time out of their day to have breakfast with their kiddos. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.

Mrs. Sutterfield's 7th and 8th grade science classes had lots of fun while learning about the steps of the scientific method. The students had to create boats out of tin foil then hypothesize how many pennies the boat will hold before it sinks. They tested their hypothesis and recorded the results. In the end the following two teams were able to hold the most pennies: For the 7th grade class it was Ronnie Daws, Brycen Martin, and Logan Waltermire with 131. Then for the 8th grade class it was Austin Benham, Channing McKinney, and Phoenix Miller, who also had 131.

Roland Lower Elementary would like to thank Sequoyah County Farm Bureau along with Mrs. Sloan and Mrs. Pack for reading an accurate Ag book to our first-grade students. Our students loved the book "I Love Strawberries", along with the snacks! Thank you!

Parents, This coming Monday is Independence Day for our Lower Elementary students. We have loved getting to see and know our parents as they enter our buildings, but now it's time for our Rangers to walk themselves to their classrooms. If you need to enter the building, we ask that you check in with the front office first. Thank you!
