Cherokee National Educational Services visited Roland Elementary students in grades 1-5. Students had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Cherokee language as well as learning about Cherokee games. Our students played stickball (closely related to lacrosse), marbles (played with balls rolling toward pins), games of graces (throwing and catching wooden ring with wooden sticks), and chunky (throwing of spears). While it was very interactive, it was great fun to see our kids learn more about the Cherokee culture. RPS sends a giant Thank You to Cherokee Nation and the representatives who taught our students!
Izzy O’Neal will play Tuesday, April 25 at Regionals in Claremore, OK. She qualified as a top 6 individual last week, advancing her on to the next tournament. We are so proud of her! Good luck Izzy!
